Charging the Yellow top Optima
I just installed some interior Mods and when I finished 2 hours later my battery was dead (Yellow top Optima - one year old).
I have a charger on it for 2 hours at 12V High setting. Is this OK, Will it cause any harm.
Thanks,
Steve :seeya
I can't see anything wrong with charging your battery the way you did. However, if you can't start the car after charging the battery this way, it maybe time for a new battery.

part of the problem may be the type of battery you bought- with optima the color of the battery means something:
red top- auto starting battery
yellow top- deep cycle rv battery no starting(designed to be totally discharged and recharged every use)
blue top- marine battery- designed for boats with auxilliary usages
the yellow top will develop a memory when not discharged totally and you will effectively lose the capacity of the battery under this memory point. i'm not a battery expert, but this is what was explained to me by a battery rep when i went looking for an optima to solve the acid leak problems on my vette(wanted blue top to match car-he said NO). red for cars, blue for boats and yellow for golf carts and trolling motors.
In any of these cases......all of which are right I might add............you would need to trickel charge the battery.....it is always best because these are gel cell batteries
You are not going to hurt the battery, but you should always trickle charge these types (its kinda like the gel slowy grows back together) I really don't know how else to explain it!
