Default Intake Maniflod

New to posting threads. Have 99 z51 with what I think are bad knock sensors. Going to replace the sensors and while I had the manifold off I want to replace it with a z06 style. But I cant seem to find much info on what brand to buy. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have a about 800$ i can spend on a new intake. Thanks

Best bet is to buy used. Look on craigs list and ebay. usually go for $400. The LS6 intake has a flat bottom. LS1 has a rounded underside FYI.

I just did an LS1 to LS6 intake swap out. There are cooler lines run under the intake that will not fit under the LS6 intake without some modification. I used a dremmel tool with a small cutoff wheel and just cut the ribs off that were in the path of the coolant lines. Took me an hour or os as I wanted to make it look like it was made that way. While you have the manifold off you should think about doing an oil pressure sensor relocate. Fairly easy to do, but I would stay away from using any plastic lines that can crack or melt, as I have seen some use. I have seen some pretty good deals on LS6 manifolds on here, $ 300 to $400. No need to spend and extra 4 or 5 hundred on an intake that you could use on other mods. Good luck.

Not worth the hassle for the 5HP IMO. Better ways to spend $800.

Thanks for all the advice. I have been searching for more info on the ls6 intake. Im still concerned that i will buy the wrong one. Does the ls6 have the flat underside? And my 99 have the rounded one? Also I found the part numbers on the DS of intake to help identify.
99-00 c5 12556333
01-04 c5 12573572 ?! This the one i need correct?
01-02 F body 12561184?! This one has the egr correct?
Just dont want to buy what i already have or what I cant use.
Thanks again for your help.

There are three LS6 intake cast numbers:

12561182
12561184
12573572

The stock on a 99 would be 12556333. 12561184 is the F-body intake that has been the most sought after. It supposedly outflows the other castings by a few CFM.

And no, there is no EGR on the later model F-bodies.

No FBody 2001-2002 ever came with EGR, and they came with "LS6" intakes from the factory.

All "LS6" intakes are the same and flow the same. Look for the ribs, and make sure there's no EGR hole.

Make sure you use only AC Delco knock sensors and replace the harness learned that one the hard way.

If your planning other motor mods buy a used FAST intake. If not... Save your money

You can find used LS-6 intakes for half of what you have to spend and in my option its cheap HP and well worth it. And to answer your question no tune needed. This is an old thread I hope you have it done already.
