I have a 2002 Corvette z06 70k miles,Anyways I had just finished getting on the freeway I tried to shift into 5th gear and I got a ugly grind and it would not go into 5th, so I put it back in 4th and tried to shift to 5th again and the same thing happened I had to exit and found a empty parking lot, I shut the car off and went threw the gears 1-6 (car off) and I gave it another try on a long road and 5th gear worked... but now I'm trying to figure out what caused it to do that and if I caused any serious damage?
Anybody have a similar type of problem?
Any help or suggestions on what it could be would be greatly appreciated!!
Thanks

I had a grind most of the time going to 5th on a '98 camaro with a T56.
My teeth on the synchro where worn, caused bc One of the 3 keys was broken.
It did chip another gear before broken pieces made it to the pan.
You could very likely have some damage, but you could drive it a bit and see how it behaves.
Check the reverse lockout solenoid. Mine was bad and would let the shifter go over to reverse and grind like that. New solenoid solved my problem. It's a pain in the a** to get to but I was able to replace it myself.
