Default seat switch is moving telescoping wheel...

i know theres a million posts on the seat and steering wheel issues, however i cant find one with my issue... car is a 2003.

my drivers side seat switch is controlling my telescoping wheel. the telescoping wheel switch currently useless. the seat switch does none of its normal functions and down would move the wheel towards u and the seat back... move the switch back it moves the wheel inward... etc etc... the non gm dealer i bought it from has replaced 3 BCM,s already same issue every time...

im getting tired of driving 35 minutes every time they get a "new" BCM so if i can get a little help id like to just do it myself.... thanks in advance for any info/help

Kinda busy right now but the Seat Control Module is what interfaces with the telescoping column, nothing else. Sounds crazy but that is how it works. I can work with you later but in the interim pull your DIC codes for us. Sure sounds like you just need a new SCM.

Whoever told you it was a BCM issue and kept replacing it was a moron.

I'm back. You have a really weird problem in the world of C5s. I find it very interesting.

The SCM is under the seat and is used to control the seat and the telescoping column. It retains the Memory settings for both also.

I would guess water got in that area and did something. It has happened a lot but I've never seen it produce your problem.

The telescoping column gets everything from the SCM except one wire ground. It does not directly connect to anything else.

I think you will need a new SCM. There should be no communication between the seat switch and the column control circuits inside the SCM. I think something has failed inside to allow cross communication.

If you replace the SCM and it does not restore all the functions you could have a seat switch issue or maybe a seat motor issue, etc.

You might get them to replace the SCM but I'm not sure you want them doing any more work. They might give you a SCM if you agreed to "close the books" with them on this issue.

If you pull your codes I am sure you will see SCM issues. Here is how to pull your codes. Pull them and show us what you find.

thanks! soon as i get it back from them i'll see what the codes are(if any) and i didnt know about DIC code lookup!

its definitely is strange though, i'll tell them about the SCM and see if they want to try it, if not im just gonna do the trial n error on my own haha...

Before you finish dealing with these guys you need to make sure that the replacement BCM was programmed for all of your cars options. If they could not figure out this problem I don't see how they would know how to actually program the BCM. Make sure everything like Memory, TPMS, etc. ALL work.

The codes should be on a decal in the glove box.

Here is a ink that should help.

Default Same issue

Did you find the issue with your seat and steering wheel not working right? I have been fighting the same issue since I bought my 99 in 2004. I have replaces the SCM twice now and each time its the same thing. Also I have replace the seat switch no luck there also.

sorry for late reply, i forgot about ths thread...

the issue was corrected after they tried 3 scm's and another customers seat... youll have to bring your car to the dealer and have them program it to your car problem should be fixed then. mine is 100% now

Glad you got it resolved.

I think your SCM went bad. The BCM was replaced to fix it but it did not. The SCM finally got replaced and that did not fix it.

Now, the dealer realized the BCM was not programmed correctly.

That is the most logical explanation that fits in my warped mind.

Default Seat Adjuster moving steering and wrong behaviour

Lately I had same problem as described here after changing my C5 Coupe LH Seat Base. I thought originally I messed up totally with wiring or destroyed the SCM (Seat Control Module), however this was not the case.

Everything worked perfectly before seat rebuild, however I did change the BCM module last autumn and could be that we forgot the telescope RPO option in re-programming.

After seat re-built (I originally had plasctic arm broken with rear vertical motor axle and this was the reason for change seat bases) - everything looked good and you cannot really mess with the connectors -- everything worked quite wrong except pressing seat front down. Eg. pressing seat back - down caused steering wheel to move. After this I borrowed another SCM to check that -- same surpise functionality -- I checked all wirings to look for shortcuts. I checked all connectors , wire colors etc. All seems OK. No special errors at SCM section for DTCs - only one history vertical position sensor failure.

Finally started to look on different options and what-if scenarios and I ended up on following claim:

Power Seat SCM at LH has two different connector layouts and wirings depending on the options the car has.

First picture here is the capture from 1999 Service Manual -- Seat Connector C3 (BLACK) at SCM. -- Let's take an example --- Your car is having Telescope Steering and thus wiring is accordingly like mine --- so basically for Pin B you will get circuit 282 and Yellow wire -- This is Seat-Rear-Up. However if your BCM programming has forgotten Telescope but has only Power Seat w Memory --- this will cause the SCM to work in a way that this Pin will get power when pressing Seat Adjuster Horizontally Backwards, So we end up on situation where you Think moving seat horizontally back and it causes the Seat back to move Up.

Same way second picture shows the Connector C2 (GREEN) Pin layout

Correction:
- keep the pin layout and wiring as is
- Go to nearest person with Tech2 and activate N37 Steering Column: Power Telescope Man. Tilt for BCM on top of the AAB code (Memory Seat).

Relevant codes for myself should be thus:
AAB Memory, Driver Convenience Package
AG2 Power Passenger seat
AQ9 Sport Seats
N37 Steering Column: Power Telescope Man. Tilt

Any opinion for this claim ?

having the same issue after my bcm shorted out and replaced, I even replaced the scm and still have the seat controls operating the steering column.
