Default HVAC Digital Control Panel

My LCD screen on the HVAC control panel went out a couple of years ago. At the time, I was able to tap on the display and it would come back, indicating a possible loose connection. Eventually, tapping on it really had no affect. I have finally gotten around to removing it and disassembling it to take a look, and I'd like to repair it.

All of the solder points on the board from the LCD display are good. No burn marks, solid connection, great solder joints. The LCD display itself has a black burn mark in one corner. I think this display may need to be replaced. I am capable of de-soldering it from the board and replacing it.

Has anyone sourced just the LED display before? What are the chances of it still being available somewhere? If I can get a hold of a new or used working one, I'm confident I can repair this.

Not at home but it could still be the classic cold solder joints on the board resistors. I had the same issue and the solder joints did not look bad but after touching them up it worked great. I would try that. I have the link at home. There are at least two different board designs so the resistors can be in different locations.

I think you have a 2001 so they should be in the same location as mine.

I do have a 2001. I'd appreciate that link!

That same burn in the corner was on both the units I have done. Here is a link to one repair-- http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-t...splay-fix.html

Your board should look different from the one in that link. However the 8 black rectangular resistors will be in 2 rows of 4 all close together. My link on the newer board design has dropped the picture.

These are board mounted and do not have pins that go "thru" the board. That makes them able to "move around" if you apply too much heat. Not hard to solder but you need to use a very small tip soldering iron.

Took it apart this weekend to take a look and found exactly what you described. However, none of the chips on the board seemed to be loose. I'm going to do the project anyway. I put it all back together after fixing the Column Lock problem to get the car to cars and coffee. That said, I tapped on the display of the HVAC a couple times and the lighting came in again...although dim. Looks like something is still indeed loose. Going to take this apart again and work on it as time allows.

Just re-solder all the 8 resistors. They will not be loose with cold solder joints. It could be something else but I doubt it.

Do me a favor. While you have the board out take a picture of it so I have one of the early and later resistor locations. Thanks.
