Default More agressive pads for the street?

hey all, I have a C5 z06, recently replaced the rotors and pads on the car. The car stops like when it was stock, I daily this car so I dont want to go on a pad that wont come alive on the street, but I do drive this car hard, and need help to find a pad to try. I want to try a more aggressive pad that will be able to stop in daily situations unlike a race only pad where it has to be warmed up a bit. I dont care much for rotor life as much as stopping power.

From what I've read, you need to avoid Ceramic pads and stick with conventional (semi-metallic?) pads. Rule of thumb is; the more dust they create, the more stopping power they will provide. I know that Hawk do offer "Performance HPS" pads made for the street. They state that these pads offer 40% more stopping power and produce "less-dust" compared to OEM pads. But, OEM pads were dust pigs so take that for what it's worth.

I went with Centric Ceramic pads because I was willing to give up a little bit of stopping performance for dust-free wheels. For everyday driving, I have yet to notice any significant difference in stopping power.

Hawk HPS will give you better modulation than the stock ACDelco pads. Let's face it, if your pads will activate the ABS, what you're really looking for is better modulation.

I use Hawk HPS for everyday driving and HP+ when I go to the track. HP+ does better when hot, but makes a bit of a racket before they get warmed up - which they never do on the street.

Agreed, stay away from ceramics - lower dust, but they don't grab as quickly.

Hi, I just installed the Centric Ceramic brake pads. Seems like a lot of dust initially for ceramic. Did you find that there was a lot of dust during the seating in process? Did the amount of dust reduce after having some time wearing them in? Thank you for the reply and information. Larry

Yes. Initially, there is a lot of dust but it should diminish considerably once they are broken in. Did you replace the disks also? If so, then there will be even more dusting initially.

carbotech 1521 are plainly the best street pad imo.

Low dust, it is tanish not black so it doesn't dirty things up as fast, and it is noncorrosive and cleans off fast.

Fully functional down to -20F(coldest i ever had to deal with) and way hotter than you could consider getting your brakes on the street.

transfer layer is compatable with carbo track pads.

Minimal noise. I wont say they are noiseless, cause they arent, but very good for a high performance pad.

Good bite and great modulation for a street pad.

Check out the Carbotech 1521 compound. The 1521 is a tremendous street pad with low dust and noise and will brake from a 150 like a race pad with out the corrosive dust like the Hawk compounds. The 1521 will not harm your wheels or paint on your car. If interested I will be happy to help you. a pad description and price is below.

Carbotech™ Bobcat 1521™ The Carbotech Bobcat 1521™ is our high performance street compound that is our most successful compound. The Bobcat compound is known for its awesome release and modulation, along with unmatched rotor friendliness. Like our AX™ & XP™ line of compounds, Bobcat 1521™ is a Ceramic based friction material offering minimal rotor damage and non-corrosive dust. Bobcat 1521™ offers outstanding performance, even when cold, low dusting and low noise with an excellent initial bite. This compound’s virtually perfect linear torque production provides incredible braking force without ABS intervention. Bobcat 1521™ operating range starts out at ambient and goes up to 900°F. Bobcat 1521™ is suitable for ALL street cars, perfect for your tow vehicle, police cruiser. The Bobcat 1521™ compound has been found to last two-three times longer than OE pads you can purchase at a dealership or national retailer. That’s one of the beauties of Carbotech Ceramic brake compounds. Bobcat 1521™ is NOT recommended for any track use.

If you are looking for modulation you should try some Carbotech pads.
