My engine is coming out and am comptemplating possible mods. Is this stroker kit something that a dealer could do? Is there headwork involved or does the kit bolt in? Why isn't there very much talk of this kit on the forum? Are there big drawbacks?
I'll tell you this much--I wouldn't trust the dealership to change my headlight bulb...let alone put in a stroker crank.... that said--call one of our excellent tuners here on the forum, and they'll be able to give you the specific requirements of doing the job...
You shouldn't have to modify the heads, but you would need new pistons, and rods should be upgraded as well...
I think one reason that not a lot of us do strokers is the fact that Lunati is the only big name that has carried a stroker crank up till now--therefore they gauge you on the $ of the stuff bigtime--flat-out rape, really...when it's all said and done, you can put a supercharger on the car for the same price as their setup--
Fortunately, I've seen recently that an Australian company is beginning to produce nodular iron cranks for our engines for less than a grand--and in a few months will have a billet version as well...for much less than Lunati---making it a viable solution $-wise, as a power-adder.
If you don't already have them, I'd spend the money on a H/C job for now, and hold off till competition drives the cost down on the strokers...
But that's just my opinion
A stroker motor with stock heads would be a bad combination IMHO. There are many better mods for you to choose from with the way your car is now
