I have the clear roof with a slight blue tint. So far up to June, the heat from the sun above has been tolerable, mainly because it has been rather mild here in North Texas. Now, we are normal (95F plus) and this old man's head is getting hot. I knew this would happen and have tried earlier the Eckler's roof screen (the solid one ordered by mistake, I wanted the one with tiny holes) but I did not like the dark interior and I never could get it flat enough to satisfy me.
Has anyone had a tint shop slightly tint the underside of the roof? I am thinking of this to cool things down inside. Actually, just my head is hot. The A/C keeps everything else nice and cool.
Hey:)
I don't think that window tint would stick to the plastic too well---especially since it's so curvy--the only thing I remember seeing people use was what you described before--the stick-on things...
I think Chevy Mall carries something similar, if I'm not mistaken...might want to see if you like that better?
Otherwise, just use the Solid top to keep the dome cool
>I would suggest trying one of those sun shades that suction cup's onto glass ...
Can you point me to where I can buy one of these?
I have considered the solid roof (except for the price!), but I enjoy the openess provided by the clear roof. When I had the very dark stick on panel from Eckler's, it was like sitting in a casket! If I had started that way, I probably would have not minded it so much.
I'm thinking about that. The area is not that big. The cost should be small, even if I screw it up. I worry a little about the curved aspect of the window, I remember a long time ago when they do curved surfaces, they cut up the area to make it easier. Not sure if I have to do this. I am going to scope it out this weekend.
If you haven't done it yet, get your windows tinted with a good quality tint. I went with lumar -- limo on the back window and as dark legally possible on the sides. This cut down interior heat significantly. Before I tinted the windows I was looking into getting a shade for the clear top, now I don't think I need one.
I just got a gray cling shade with the holes in it from Mid-America. Item # 602164GR for $24.99, I have on in our 99 and it works great for the hot sun. New one going on 2003 AE being built 7/30.
Mid America Corvette also sells a Headliner Blackout Roof panel, its made of Headliner material, and clips into the glass, would block a lot more than extra tint, part # 606-362 $69.99 http://www.madirect.com
