Default 1997 Owners: I Need Your Help (REVISED)

I am no longer participating in CF, thanks

During 1997's production run a running change was made in the design of the left (driver's side) fuel rail cover. Originally the two slots to clear the fuel lines were straight. Sometime after VIN 4112 the design changed to both slots curving to the rear to make assembly over the lines MUCH easier. This latter design continued until the "plumbing" was changed to a single fuel ine.

What I'm trying to determine is exactly when during 1997 the change occurred.

The change-over seems to be between VIN 5000 and 6100 and there may be some overlap as they used up parts stock.

If your 1997 VIN is in that range and you have your original fuel rail covers let me know the last 4 digits of your VIN and if you have straight or curved slots.

Hopefully, we'll figure this thing out.

Thanks!

My 97 was 4716, I hope that helps narrow it down a bit.
Tim

4107 and it has straight slots. If yours is 4112 it must have been caught up in the factory hold like mine was. The car was built and put on the truck and then recalled for replacement of the interior door panels. It was really wierd. Got a call from the dealer saying car was on the truck and would be delivered in a couple of days. Then it just dropped out of sight. GM finally notified the dealer what happened several days later. There were about 400 hundred cars caught up in the problem. Delivery was delayed about 2 weeks. I believe the build date was around the last week of April. The build sheet is dated 4/8/97.

I didn't specifically know what the delay was but, yes, the car was, as near as we could figure, built about 2 weeks before delivery.

By comparison, a friends 2000 coupe was delivered 4 days after assembly in November 1999...

Thanks.

Which numbers in the VIN are the serial number? Mine is G5104, does that mean iam 5104?

I believe my slots are straight as well but I will have to check.

Carmine97- I told you in an email mine was number 8,2xx. I don't know why I was thinking it was in the 8's? Mine is number 6098 and it has the curved slots. Sorry about that.

The numbers I am after are the last 4 digits of the VIN.
Since there were less than 10,000 1997's built (9752 to be exact) we can use just the last 4.

:chevy

We're narrowing it down. I'll keep editing the first post in this thread to reflect the new range as I receive posts and e-mails.

Thanks, Guys!
