I have a 99 vert/A4 and I recently picked up a 3.42 diff. for the car,I also would like to add a performance torque converter and a trans shift kit for firmer shifts, this car will be supercharged with a ATI kit.
my question is what stall speed seems to work nice,I am looking at between 3000-3500 rpm,and also whats the best shift kit for the A4?
The Yank 3000 or PT2900 are also good choices if you don't want your converter to be as loose. Since you have a 99 firmer shift points can can programed into your PCM. On the 01-02 a shift kit is needed, I have a 98 and my PCM was reprogramed to give firmer shifts, no shift kit was required.
With your 3.42 gears and the Shift kit I think you would really like the Super Yank 3500. This TC is a great seat of the pants mod and it's perfromance is outstanding. It is great from a stop but is amazing while on a roll  These 3 mods will change your car immensely and will feel like 100hp :D Get ready for some new tires :D I love it when I can spin and chirp my tires between gears on a A4
I drove an ST3500 for a year (3.23 f-body), its not loose at all and after a week you wont even notice it. The SY3500 is a nice converter for street tires with the lower str, even though with the ATI you will have traction problems anyhow :)
What kind of tire is he expecting you will run w/ that?
Ron, if I can digress for a moment... Know anybody running 11# or more boost in the LS1/6 world?
Hope you dont mine me butting in but I was here anyhow :) Harlen on Ls1.com ran 12psi with an Icon TT on a stock LS1 long block - I think he got pretty close to 600rwhp (M6).

I haven't seen a Corvette, but many F-Bodies are...
If you have ECU tuning done ( by Ed Wright or a Powerloader etc.) your shift points will be firmed up eliminating the need for a shift kit. I used the Powerloader to reprogram my ECU when I installed 3.42 gears and a converter my shift points were firmed up also as part of the reprograming. My car shifts are very firm and fast since the reprograming. The Trans Go Shift Kit is a good mod. but you shouldn't need it if your ECU is going to be reprogramed.
I could be wrong but from what I have been told it is not nessessarily how much stall you have that loosens the shifts. Most high converters are smaller than the stock unit and hold less tranny fluid, this contributes to sloppy shifts and higher tranny temps.(slippage of the high stall converters also contribute to higher tranny temps). But you do have a point the PT2400 is a 10.5 inch converter and would be easier to program with just the PCM since it would hold more tranny fluid than a 9 inch ST3500 or Vig. 3200 for example.
