I am having a problem with this message. I have had the CLB installed for awhile now. I did have a problem with my BCM and had it replaced by Chevy about a week ago. I now get this message every time I start the car. I had my after market alarm system removed and still get the message. Any suggestions on what I should do next? Thanks
When you installed the CLB did you bypass the Column Lock Relay (CLR)??
If yes then I suggest you check to see that it is still bypassed after the dealer worked on the car. I would bet if it had been done the dealer removed it.
If no, then the column lock relay on 99 and 2000 manual trans cars need to be bypassed when a CLB is installed. Without bypassing the CLR the CLB gets an extraneous signal as a result of the way GM did the mod to the column lock system on the manual trans cars for 99 and 2000. Your car has something referred to as the spliced purple wire and relay replacement modification done to the column lock system to prevent the column from locking while the car is in motion. The mod is in the passenger foot well near the BCM and looks like what is in this link:
That modification is what applies a constant 12 volts to the lock motor (now CLB since you have that installed and the lock motor disconnected). The CLB is not expecting the voltage and sends a signal back to the BCM that it doesn't expect.
The result is inconsistent BCM column lock action.
The bypass for the CLR is described and includes pictures here:
Personally I would order and install an LMC5 and NOT do the CLR bypass. LMC5 install gets around all the crap done to the column lock wiring by disconnecting it at the BCM and then connecting the LMC5. The wiring mods previously done are abandoned and because they get disconnected are NEVER in the picture again relative to column lock function/issue.
Can I ask why you had the BCM replaced????
Thanks for the reply. I have ordered the LMC5. I had the BMC replaced because a installed an after market stereo and move my XM radio antenna to the back of my vette. I put everything back together and the car ran fine. The next day it wouldn't start. I tried push starting it and nothing. Had the vette towed to Marine Chevy to have the BMC reprogrammed think I fried something. They said the stereo install was fine but the BCM was not allowing the fuel pump to engage so new BCM (very expensive). I then start having this error. There was one wire running into the BMC for my alarm so I had the system removed. Once I install the LMC5, I'll have an alarm system installed bypassing the BMC.
Ok, had the LMC5 put in. Everything worked great. Had a Viper alarm system put in. I have the "Pull Key wait 10 seconds again". Dazed and confused now.
Call Compliance Parts and they walked me through the process of fixing the problem. Had a change one wire and cut another. Great customer service. Everything is working fine. Thanks 8VETTE7 and everyone else for the guidance.
