Default What's this plug

I just removed my door panel to see if I could figure out why my drivers Bose sub quit working and noticed that I have this plug that has nothing connected. Can someone on here tell me what it's for? Also, did Chevy use orange electrical tape from the factory?

Thanks

It may be to the memory function, as it is unplugged on my vehicle also. I don't have the memory seat option.

Yes, factory used orange tape on the door as pictured.

The plug is likely for a feature or option that was not built on that particular car. Without seeing the number if pins and seeing the particular color code of the wires going to it, I would just be guessing as to it's function. May be for cars with Memory option or something to do with the mirror. Not sure.

As far as the orange tape color, yes GM (probably Delphi division) did in fact use orange colored tape on the driver's side door harnesses, and purple on the passenger side. The worker bees on the assembly line were assured of grabbing the correct harnesses when doing their assembly work. Although similar at a quick glance, the two are different.

Thanks for the answers guys. I just purchased the car this spring and I thought maybe the previous owner had done something odd. This car does not have the memory option, but my seat moves every time I unlock the door with the key fob and then insert the key. If I don't lock it, the seat stays where I put it, so I was hoping maybe that plug had something to do with it.

Sounds like your car does have the memory option and you've got the easy access switched on

I meant seat easy entry, to see if you have it press the options button on the DIC as below:

To display and select the SEAT EASY ENTRY Options
Press the OPTIONS button until SEAT EASY ENTRY appears on the display
Press the RESET button to page through the following choices:
SEAT EASY ENTRY ON - When you turn the ignition off and remove the key, the seat will automatically move back for an easy exit or an easy entrance when returning to the vehicle.
SEAT EASY ENTRY OFF - Turns off this option.

That option is turned off. Mine does the opposite of that. When I put the key in the seat moves forward....never backwards.

That's working as it should with easy entry off. Turn it on and the seat will move back so you can get out easier. My guess would be that you haven't set the memory function up for you and it's still remembering the previous owner..... But I'm only guessing!

With the key in the ignition, set the seat and external mirrors to where you want them (using the seat / door controls) then press and hold one of the memory buttons on the door (there should be a number on the back of the key fob 1 or 2 - if it's 1 then press and hold memory 1) until the light on the button flashes. That should lock your settings into that memory and if you don't move the seat / mirrors they will stay where they are. If you do move them then they will return to your setting either when you put the key in of when you press the memory button once.

I highly doubt there is something added to the door for the memory feature besides the switch panel that includes the memory buttons. Both switch panels are the same size and have the same connector.

The memory feature is enabled in the BCM. I believe the switch panel will send a serial signal (via the left door control module) to all the control modules telling them to save their current settings in the memory location or to recall/switch to the correct memory settings. The BCM will send a serial signal to tell all the appropriate modules to change to the memory setting when the door is unlocked via the key FOB.

You can either go to a dealer and get them to check the BCM option settings via a TECH II or you could buy a $100 memory switch panel on Ebay and hope the car has the memory option enabled.

I actually suspect that a car with the memory option disabled would still save and recall the memory via the door switch but it just wouldn't change when you unlocked via the key FOB. I've never tested it though. But, remove the switch panel and turn-off the memory recall with the FOB via the BCM and the memory is effectively disabled even though the feature is still built into all the modules.

If the easy entry is off and the seat still moves then it sounds like a memory thing. Do the mirrors and HVAC change too?

The mirrors and HVAC do not change at all. According to the tag in the glove box I should have no memory options and my left door panel has no memory buttons. Is it possible a grounding issue could cause this?
