When I went to park, the car stuck in drive, was able to get car in park, but now car will not start. It was suggested it might be a linkage cable problem, or solenoid. Does anyone have any experience with this type of a problem. So far I have taken apart the console, I checked underneath the car, the cable linkage is still connected at the transmission. The gear shift lever seems to move easier then it used to. Any help, suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Have someone move the shifter through the gear selections (WITHOUT THE CAR RUNNING)while watching the connection at the transmission linkage. I have had the connector at the rear linkage work loose from the metal transmission lever. Picture of rear connector below:
I know on my 04 C5 A4 while going from Drive to Reverse my shifter linkage bit the dust, the small plastic piece on the shifter lever broke, So had to call a friend jack the car up manually put it in drive and drove it to the shop. Luck was on my side dealer had a cable in stock took 45 mins to replace and all is good now. My car had around 50k on it at the time.
