Waiting on a set of shorter prods from Smith Brothers; meanwhile new engine started, 70psi oil pressure, all is well except pushrods are keeping valves off seats. Started new engine on the stock 85mm maf, how will I know if I need to replace with larger unit? New engine is 383, fast 102 and AFR 215 large port heads both massaged by Tony, Jesel shaft rockers, NW 102 tb, 227/231 lsl Comp with full exhaust. Thank you
I would not run an engine with the valves not seating. Good way to burn a valve, and any backfiring can cause damages. When you start an engine with a new cam, there is a specific break-in procedure. You don't want to idle a new cam. I would wait till the new pushrods come in before you wipe out a cam lobe.
Not sure if this will help you or not, but IIRC, you need a tool such as a lab waveform scope to be able to read the output frquency on most modern MAF sensors. It will let you know if your MAF output signal is maxed out prematurely.
Older MAF's, you could measure the voltage. 5V being max.
Probably easier, but not necessarily cheaper (IDK) to go aftermarket MAF once intake, injector, porting, cam etc... changes become radical enough to warrant a MAF increase.

Reason: spelling
Stock ls2 MAF is less restrictive. With the 102 tb and intake, higher flow heads and 383 cubes, I would gestimate 15-20 more hp with the ls2 MAF. Just my .02.
