How can I tell if the LMC5 or some other column lock bypass has been installed. If I don't have one I want to get one, but I don't know what to look for. Thanks for the help.

Hey Sledge Hammer,
An easy way to tell if the CLB is installed is to take hold of the steering wheel (no keys in the ignition) and try turning it to the left and right, If the steering wheel moves then chances are you have a CLB installed. I can't speak for the LMC5....don't have that one installed on mine. Hope this helps.
P.S. this is on my '04 6 speed

Just because the wheel turns doesn't mean a CLB has been installed. It only means the locking mechanism has been modified or disabled, even by GM in one of their recalls. You have to actually look to see if you have a CLB or K harness installed.

Like 8vette7 said, Sledge Hammer, if you aren't going to fill out your profile, you're going to have to include the year and transmission of your car.

Yeah, but if it doesn't turn at all you know that it definitely has not been installed. Good place to start.
Sorry guys. This is my first vette. Just got it a little over a week ago. It is a 2002 Z06. I appreciate the replies. Reading the column lock threads causes me to want to take care of this right away, but I just don't know if the prior owner has dealt with it or not.
I called my local gm dealer, they ran my vin and indicated it had one of the recalls done.
Which fixes nothing. You still need a LMC5 or CLB to avoid being stranded unless you've had the 2mph fuel cutoff tuned out also. The dealer won't do that, and his recall won't fix the column lock message.
My car is down right now because of this. LMC5 and HPtuners are en route to get the car back on the road. Car had recall performed; free steering, paperwork, and underhood label.
Yea, i know i am on borrowed time but just last week a thread was posted and you replied to the guy who still had problems after the lmc5 so go figure. 8vette give us a pic of that nice ride from the side.
