Default Window regulator question....

My '04 Coupe has 85k on it and has been a joy to have and drive. A year ago the left hand window regulator began to raise and lower the window very roughly and fairly quickly quite altogether and was replaced and has been perfect since. I have had an issue with the right hand window not working at all for a couple of years. One day it wont work at all and then it will work fine for 6-9 months and then quit again for a couple of days. It always ran up and down smoothly.

Last month it quit again but has never come back as before. When the car is not running and quiet you can hear a electric contact in the right hand door when either side right window switch is pressed.

Is it time for a new regulator?

Thanks in advance.

These motors are almost a sealed can, in that the material that erodes off of the contact brushes has nowhere to go. You might be getting intermittent performance as the debris piles up and shorts the contacts, and then a bump might move the pile enough to restore function.

I just replaced the motor only when my window stopped working. I didn't want to have to adjust the window travel, as I have a convertible and that part of the job is a skill item. I like to stay with the easy stuff, bolt on, bolt off.

When I was researching my problem, I came across repeated postings to cut the travel wire. This is my main reason for posting. To prevent someone from becoming the victim of what seems to me an internet prank. Perhaps it is just some ignorant , although well intentioned advice, like what happens when people ask for oil advice and the owner's manual is never considered in the conversation, but I don't think so. Once you cut the wire, you need a complete new assembly, all the labor, and you have lost all the travel adjustments .

The windows are very easy to adjust. It simply takes a little trail and error. Fiddle with it until the door closes properly with the top of the window hitting the weather stripping properly. Took maybe ten minutes for me to get it right.
