Default Front cover re-seal

Had an HCI set up installed on my 04z at a local shop, against my better judgement. Im no master mechanic but I knew I shoulda did it myself, but since I didn't, it appears my timing cover is leaking like the exxon valdez among other screw ups Im powering through. Long story as to why Id rather gargle diarrhea than afford this hack an opportunity to re-do it.

Sorry for the rant Anyway, I've got the gist of what needs to be done but my question is when re-installing the front cover, are you just laying a bead of RTV along the oil pan, letting it set up and installing the cover and gasket with an alignment tool(or the balancer itself)? It doesn't appear there is a gasket between the pan and timing cover or am I missing it?

Did a lot of similar wrenching on 302 Fords but this would be my first issue this deep on an LS…just wanna get lined up with the right tools and all the parts I need. The 2 or 3 half dollar sized puddles of expensive oil after every drive are driving me crazy.

Thanks!

Yeah they know. Theres a laundry list of things that weren't done up to par and the car has been back once already(ultimately sitting for 3 weeks and not having a damn thing fixed). I'm over it. Rather do it my self. Lesson learned as far as Im concerned. Dude that runs it isn't a bad guy, the shop is how he feeds his kids…I'm not gonna drag him through the mud, however he had AMPLE opportunity to get this thing straight. I'll eat it and karma can hammer the guy.

Thanks for the heads up though... You use the Black RTV or the Red?

Used red RTV between cover and pan and it leaks. Recent thread on this recommends just corners. I was planning on doing mine again but not to sure which method now.

Yeah I saw the same. After cleaning up everything with brake cleaner and letting it idle for a few minutes, it looks like the lower pan is leaking as well. Theres so much oil all over the pan Im not really sure where its coming from at this point. Makes me wanna throw up knowing the entire motor was out of the car when it was "resealed".. and the install was still this butchered. Didn't leak a damn drop prior.

I'll update after I get it sealed up…looks like its gonna be fun

Borrow the alignment tool you will be glad you did. It's a crap shoot without it.

If there is a updated way to do it follow that but I just put an 1/8 all the way around with some extra dabs in the corner. I romp on the car alot and its bone dry. I put it betwwn the gasket and edges. Tcruse is the one who showed me and he's pushing way more HP then I am and he has no issues. Just make sure its aligned correctly I think that's 90 percent of the issue
