Default Cool Socks + MSD-Should I Bother?

I'm going with my FLP Headers soon, and went with the cool socks to protect the wires from heat.

For added looks/protection, I also went with red MSD wires.

It looks like the cool socks will cover them nearly comopletely. Should i save the $80 and use the cool socks with the stock wires?

I first went with the Magnecor's with my FLP's. The Magnecor wires are shaped exactly like the stockers (but red) and I couldn't keep 2 or 3 of them from touching the headers which bothered me due to heat and esthetic concerns. That's why I went with the Taylor wires and socks.

I've seen others go without the socks - some have burned wires, most haven't. I'd rather not 'cause the Taylor's (and MSD's) look very nice exposed but I wanted to avoid smokin' wires even more.

FLP told me the socks were unnecessary with the Magnecor's and that they ran the same setup without problem.

Hundreds and hundreds of people drive LS1's every day with headers and no wire socks. skip em. You dont need em. I'd bet even the stock wires will be fine as long as you keep them from touching the header.

I'm sure that you feel that your car is worth going the extra mile for. $39.95 is a small price to pay for the peace of mind that you will get from using the KoolSox over the MSD's. I am very happy that I did it!

I have this exact setup on my car and have had no problems with my TPIS LT headers. Worth Every penny in my book! :)

I'd replace the stock wires, they are not very good. Put Magnecor's on mine but with headers most guys go with the Taylor Thundervolts, go to http://www.thunderracing.com they have them for $69.95! :yesnod:

I have TPIS headers and MSD wires. I have 15 wires now, I had to buy a new set because I burnt the #7 wire and they don't sell them individually.

MSD wires should be around $60 bucks not $80 also. I bought mine through my local NAPA store. I also bought the kevlar socks which were a little pricey at the NAPA store. Mid America has them for $40 bucks.

Thanks, I guess I'll keep the MSD's (I'm hoping they are better for performance) and the koolsox. It may be overkill, but so is my eventual goal of 400 flywheel, and my next eventual goal 500 flywheel
