Consequences removing radiator cover?
I don't miss that damn thing at all, especially when you look behind you for the bag you ran over bc you had no choice, only to NOT see it behind you. Makes "**** retrieval" from the condenser and radiator easy peasy.
Again, as stated, I've ran all my F-Bodies as such and noticed cooler temps. BUT, I understand the C5 is indeed different. I also know how "great" the engineers were at GM... And bc they are actually in this site, I'll keep my own opinions to myself.
But since you brought up the outstanding Corps of Engineers, again, them sincerely needing quotations around the "engineer" portion, let me tell you a story about my father in laws property:
Butte La Rose Louisiana; they live on the Atchafalaya River. Corps decided they didn't "need" any additional erosion protection, and skipped their house for the pylons and rock they so freely GAVE to everyone else. I do want you to understand they live in the curve of the river...
So, 5 years later, my in laws have effectively lost 15' of land. Sorry to be a dick, but the Army Corps of Engineers strike a nerve with me.
Getting on: no, no goal to speak of, nor personalization. Just going with what went best with my SS that ran a LOT cooler without all the plastic in the way.
I live in Lafayette Louisiana. It's HOT here, with high humidity.
Geoff Skinner (EPS - Engine Power Systems - Founder of Thunder Racing, left in 2008 before it went to **** ) is my tuner, and he always recommends a 160 stat. Even for my Escalade.
I guess you are either avoiding traffic or your supposition that it is a cosmetic piece is correct. Since the shroud is billed as for fan performance, it is out of play above 35 mph anyway. I am just glad I didn't make an *** of myself in the reply, it happens.
My by the book approach is from my sailor days in the merchant marine. Almost every system on the ship is critical , in some way. When stuff happens, and it does, you don't want to be on the stand testifying how you decided to wing it, instead of following the book. Provided you live, of course.
It is not uncommon to hit a storm that would easily overpower and swamp whatever kind of lifeboat you might have on hand. I've brought in supertankers with crushed I beams in the bow, it's about money and time. You don't want to be in a little lifeboat in seas like that. And if you are, you hope it was maintained by the book.
As an aside, spent some good time on the Mississippi and around in my sailor days.
