Default Tpms id ????

I have a 98 that I have had for about 5 years and previous owner had for 3. He said that he nor previous owner replaced monitors or batteries.
I am fixing to replace my tires and since that would make the monitors 8+ years old, I am thinking that they may have been replaced with the newer version. Is there anyway to tell by inspecting the FOB or do I have to put eyes on the receiver?? Either way I still will replace the batteries but I think the 2000+ batteries are different.
Thanks,
Julian

97 through 2000 they are the same, in 01 they changed to the new type throughout the C5 run. If the system has been changed, it will have the smaller fobs, and not the fat ones. 97-99 fobs had the passive off/on switch, but used the same frequencies as the 2000 and will work interchangeably, (except for the passive function won't work on a 2000.) If you have the newer smaller fobs, and the tpms work, they have also been upgraded, along with the rfa receiver.

Well my FOBs are the fat ones so that makes them original. I find it hard to believe that the batteries would still be kicking after 16 years. I guess I will find out if they are original when I take a peek at them next week.
Do you know if the 2001-2005 take the same battery as the 97-2000???

I do not. I know the TPMS sensors are different, but never changed the batteries. It's a lot of work with a risk of damaging the fobs. I have the newer style, so I would just replace them. With all the problems with the older fobs, I think given a choice I would update the rfa, the fobs and the tpms with the kit from gmpartshouse.com.
