Default Question about Hurst Shifter

I Have a question about the Hurst shifter. Has anyone kept the factory springs that came in the shifter. They sent two other set of springs two of them are thin looking the other set are heavier. Has anyone installed either of these sets in place of the factory springs. I replaced a ripper because I didn't like how hard it was to shift will the thinner springs give me a softer throw or are the factory springs better then the ripper. The instructions only say to change the springs only if you want a different side to side feel. What dose that meen? :)

The setup that comes is stiff outer and lite inner spring but I felt it was too hard to go between gear sets. So I replaced the outer with a lite one and kept the lite inner, seems good to me now.

I installed the heavier springs on the drivers side to help with the 2nd to 3rd shift and left the stock springs alone on the passenger side which in turn makes it require less force to put the car into 5th, 6th, or reverse. :yesnod:

I didn't change the springs on mine. I just locked down the adjustments and installed the shifter. Love it.

I installed mine with both springs, then went to the lighter springs only, then went to the heavier springs only. I think I prefer it with the lighter springs only - as I occasionally miss the 5-6th change when driving gently - and will put them back in this weekend.

I have it as it came from the factory. I don't know if it loosened up or what, but I don't even notice it being stiff or hard to get into any gear. I love it.

I removed the standard springs and installed only the outer lightest springs -- feels just about right to me. The stock springs were too stiff. If you're concerned about the Ripper stiffness I'd recommend you start with the lightest springs and work up to the heavier if you think it's too light. From what I've read, most folks migrate towards the lighter springs, but I haven't hearde anyone say that they tried the outer lightest springs only and said they were TOO light.

Changing of the springs only effects the effort required to move the shifter side to side. It will index between 3rd and 4th - the springs impact the effort to move it into the 1st/2nd gate and the 5th/6th gate. Hope this helps...
