Default Window and door lock controls

Hello, I have a 99 Hardtop. My optima battery recently quit on me and quit taking a charge. When I replaced the battery and fired it back up the drivers side controls for the window, locks, and mirrors did not work and neither did the radio. It was also reading reduced engine power and service engine along with the gas gauge not working as well the key fob. I held down the lock and unlock button on my fob and it started unlocking and locking the passenger side, no drivers side function. The trunk button and horn button still do not work. The radio came back the passenger side window and lock work. At one point the driverside controls lit up and then the lights went back out before I could test the buttons. The reduced power and service engine stopped popping up too. I am a little stumped. Thank you for any help.

Make sure the battery connections are secure.

If that is not the issue, disconnect the negative cable to the battery for about 5 minutes and see if that reboots the electronics.

If you still have issues, pull your DIC codes and post them.

FYI: NEVER charge a dead battery in the car unless at least the negative battery cable is disconnected. A charger produces a square wave DC voltage that a dead battery cannot filter out. It can hammer the electronics and cause damage. I hope that did not happen but we will see. Could be Murphy just hit you with an issue.

PS: Did you charge the new battery before installing it? If not that could be your issue.

I will try that and let you know. It did quit throwing codes. Good to know about charging. Thank you!

My recently acquired used '99 had a dead battery at the car lot where I bought it, and they put the battery on a charger for about 20min. They did not disconnect anything.

I didn't want to wait for a full charge on the used battery that was already in the car..So they installed a new battery for me to take delivery of the car..

Now I'm kind of nervous after reading these posts. everything seems to be OK.. but, I'm not very well versed on the DIC procedures and deciphering codes and all that..How would I know if there is any damage..????

Charging a connected dead battery in a C5 is a bad idea. Doing it once may not cause an issue or it might. It might just reduce the life expectancy of some of the components. If everything works then just forget about it. You can't change what was done. Just don't do it any more.

Don't worry about how to interpret the codes for now. Learn how to pull them up and we can explain what they mean. As you go you will learn to be more independent, and if not, we'll still be here.
