Has anyone had this problem? My origional AC Delco leaked acid down the positive cable and took out the computer. Dealer fixed it?? Today throttle stuck at 3500, vette misfiring, blowing black smoke out exhaust, back to dealer on flat bed.
I've read several posts about leaking batteries frying the PCM and shorting wiring. Suppossedly was caused by cracking of the case due to overtightening of the positive terminal at the factory by an industrial robot. The negative terminal is tightened by a mere mortal, so no problem with that side, or at least that's what I've read here. Sorry to hear about your trouble. One would think that they've got to be related. I don't believe much in coincidence.
this is becoming a very common issue- the delco batteries are junk IMO-replaced 3 on my 97 vette- all under warranty- all delcos. sold it to a friend of mine and he had it replaced with a delco under warranty and less than 6 months latter it failed again and he replaced with optima, still going strong 2 1/2 years later and he stores in the winter and doesn't even remove battery!!! i had a non-delco replacement leak on my just purchased 99 and melted the vacumn line-dealer cleaned up & repaired under warranty and tech recomended optima battery! he said he has seen at least 15 of this acid leak problem and he is only 1 of 4 vette techs at this dealer, so i'm guessing they have had a bunch with this problem and didn't even want to sell me a delco battery(sent me down the street to get the optima) because of the bad location of the pcm and main harness under the battery. could be a VERY expensive problem if not caught early enough. if i bought a 2003 i'd change the battery the first day i got it to an Optima, on second thought i'd negotiate it in the deal up front and have the dealer change it before delivery! :yesnod: :yesnod: :yesnod: :yesnod:
Changed by battery on my 1999 Torch Red Coupe 3 weeks ago to a Optima Red top from LAPD. After removing the positive cable saw green stuff on the terminal and drips on the foam covering by the positive terminal. Also found some wet stuff on the tray the battery was sitting on. Found white stuff on some of the wiring and some on the PCM. Cleaned it up and glad I checked. Have 29800 miles on the car.

Same thing here!
Removed the old battery and coated the entire area with baking soda, cleaned and rinsed tray, cables, PCM, frame, etc.. and installed an Optima Red Top from LAPD!!
With all of the failures, you would think GM/Delco would belly-up to the bar on this one! :mad
Checked PEP BOYS here in OKC,OK he says they only carry the yellow top OPTIMA now they recalled the Red Tops last week, shipped them back to the warehouse. Anybody here about this anywhere else?
