Default Tech 2 Brake Bleed

I did a standard bleed and pedal went soft on track after getting into ABS. I'm sure it would be fine after a couple more bleeds, but it turns out that I can access a Tech 2 for free.

Does anyone have a good source of instructions or experience? After searching, I haven't found anything good other than a basic 14 step text in several different places. Any help would be appreciated!

The Tech II literally tells you which bleeder to open and when, as well as when to hold or release the brake pedal. Follow what the box tell you to do and you cannot go wrong.

Have LOTS of brake fluid on hand, the Tech II bleed is extremely wasteful of fluid.

Remember when you bleed brakes you always start at the car corner that has the longest run of brake line and then the next longest, etc.

The 2001 FSM says to bleed RR, LF, LR, RF in that order. I have done it longest to shortest and also in the FSM order and I think the pedal is slightly more firm using FSM method, probably something to do with the anti skid brake module plumbing.

If the brake pedal gets slightly soft on the track but pumps up OK and stays firm once you are not cornering hard, that can be due to pad "knock back" caused by cornering forces distorting the hub, or loose wheel bearings allowing the hub to move in the corner and deflecting the rotor out of square with the pads. Check for wheel bearings being properly preloaded and no run out.

The FSM recommends doing the longest to the shortest. It just isn't obvious. 2001 and newer Vettes use the dual diagonal brake system. That means the left front and right rear brakes are on the same circuit and the right front and left rear brakes are on the same circuit. The rear brakes on each circuit are the farthest from the bpmv. The 2000 and earlier cars had a front circuit and a rear circuit so bleeding by doing the right rear followed by the left rear, etc, was different because the circuits were connected in a different manner.

Thanks for the replies. My car is a 1999. I have the Tech 2 in hand for the weekend from a friend and I'm not finding the automated program. It looks simple enough in the chassis diagnostics pathing table in the manual: Automated bleed - ABS/Special Functions. However, I'm not encountering these options. Below is my path:

Main Menu - Diagnostics - 1999 - Pass. car - Chassis - Y product line (Establishing communication, "Warning ABS braking not available when ABS lamp is illuminated" (My ABS lamp is not illuminated)) - Continue -

After continuing my only 2 options are F0. ABS/TCS/magnasteer and F1. CVRTD

I select F0. and then select Special Functions expecting to see Automated Bleed but my only options are the following:

F0. Automated test
F1. Solenoid test
F2. TCS Test
F3. Magnasteer test
F4. TCS Switch Information
F5. Steering position test

Did I take any wrong turns? It seems that it should be obvious. I must be missing something.

Have not done this yet, but have on my C4. Why does it seem some difficult to do on a C5?

Hopefully I'm just missing it in the menu. Once you find it, I imagine it should be just as easy as with the C4.

No, I unfortunately never did. I had my buddy who I borrowed the Tech 2 from take a look and he was stumped too.

All I did was activate ABS on the street with lockup and bled again... unfortunately, I don't have a good answer on this.

Hmm . . . I have a Tech 2 and didn't have any trouble finding the bleeding function my first time around. Do you have the user manual? That tells you how to navigate the menus.

I followed the user manual but would eventually get to a menu on the Tech 2 that did not have the "Automated Bleed" option as the manual stated it would. I explained it a bit better in one of my previous posts. Since that option didn't exist, I was stumped. Not sure what I missed.
