Anyone have this documented with some pictures? Just wondering how difficult it is and whether a non-mechanic can do it. Bought a B&M and got a quote of around $150 to install by my mechanic. Just wondering what everyone else paid and whether it is something that can be done in the garage.
Real basic, it took a little thought, but it was very simple. Type, location and fittings were the most cost. Made a template and removed the shroud in front of the cooler for air. Cut holes in the shroud by the fog lights for extra air, seems to works very well.
So Al, have you noticed a big change in trans fluid temp? I remember on another post someone said you put it in a dead area of air flow. I want to add the same set up as you and was waiting to hear your results. BTW, which cooler was that again?

I have a noticed a 15 degree drop in temperature, however it all depends on the outside temp. The tranny temp was 205 with an outside temp of 94. If the cooler was larger, I would probably see more. The cooler is a Fluidyne. The cooler get plenty of air flow, the shroud behind the cooler has been removed (like the Vortex) and holes cut in the front next to the fog lights.
I am thinking about getting one, and was planning to mount it in front of the radiator. I know this may cut down (and warm) the air flow through the radiator; anyone see a problem with this idea? Thanks :)
I would suggest installing in a better spot (i.e. on shroud, etc.) as i have been running to hot and think b/c of being installed right on radiator like you mentioned is causeing to much heat for my radiator and all my temps are to hot right now. Think it is worth doing little extra effort now to avoid hotter coolant and oil temps in the future.
I sent you a few pictures of my cooler installed in my '02. It is easy, save yourself the bucks and do it yourself. Believe us, it is easy. I have done 4 of these on various cars over the years and had no problems with leaks, or any problems. Cooler is $50, a few extra fittings are $5 and just a few hours time.
