Just bought a 01 vert w 5k miles changed dexcool ,oil, battery and new michelans put on before driving it home to nj from wisconsin. Should the brake fluid be changed also, have heard it can pick up water over time although car was garaged kept since day 1? Thanks

Yes. Suggest a complete brake fluid flush either DIY or at the dealer or reputable shop. I flush the brake fluid in my vehicles about every 2 years and have been using the Motive Products power flush for over 10 years with success.

Not sure it is necessary every two years, but it definitely can't hurt.
DOT 3 fluid would be best for a street car. It resists water absorption better than DOT 4 fluid.
DOT 4 fluid has can withstand higher temps and is better suited for the track where higher temps are typical.
If you are going to flush it every two years, it probably doesn't matter.
No offense meant; ya'll talk like a brake fluid flush every two years is a prudent practice. I always thought I was supposed to flush it once a year. That's not right?

Thank you.
I have two sets of wheels/tires for my C-5. I have the OE wheels with the worn out OE tires, that I use to store the car on in the winter, and a set of aftermarket wheels and newer tires, that I drive on in the summer.
Since I swap the wheels out in the spring, to start the driving season, I flush the brake fluid, since it's not that big of a deal, not that expensive for a quart of brake fluid, and I already have the wheels off...
