I just started to notice this somewhat high pitch hum/whirr/tone coming from the passenger side of the car. At first i thought it might be the fuel pump. The reason i say electrical is that it changes tone if i place a load on the electrical system - for example, hit up on the power windows when they're already up, and it changes tone; or turn on the defroster on the rear window, or even when i hit the brakes.
One more thing - i only hear it when the car is running... if i turn it off but leave it to where i still can operate the windows, stereo, etc, i dont hear it.
I'm wondering if this is coming from the 'puter in the passenger side, or if i'm hearing the alternator or something... anyone?
I get this same noise but it comes from over my left shoulder(when im in the drivers seat) I heard that it might be the fuel pump but since yours comes from the passenger side im not sure.

Well, maybe i'm mistaken and the acoustics of the car just make it sound that way, but i'll double check when i get outta work...

Turns out it does seem stronger from over my left shoulder, and it's definately not in the passenger side like i originally thought. I'm sure i looked amusing in the driveway, crawling all over with my head popping up and down looking for this noise. :jester
I just must not have noticed it before... so this is a normal sound then? What will it sound like if it's going bad (for future ref.)???
I had the same noise, with the engine running, sitting still, radio off turn on the turn signals the sound would react to the signals. Turned out to be the fuel pump, I had also been experiencing the low fuel warning with 1/2 tank of gas. the fuel sending unit and fuel pump are combined into one unit. Had it fixed under warrenty. sound gone now. :chevy

Hmmm, thats what i was wondering - the factory warranty will be up soon, so if it is the fuel pump... Time to take it back! Unfortunately, they dont seem to hear the same things i do, so i think i'll have to get in the car with the service guy and tell him to turn up his hearing aid
