Many post on this and I am sure othere will chime in but you need to get the LCM5 from compliance out of calif. 40.00 install in about 30 minutes in the passenger footwell area. I did the install about 2 months ago. My 01 had the recall performed and I was having no issues but after reading about this column lock happening I figured I would install it for peace of mind.
I did this last month after 10 years no issues on my 03, easy unlock and fix....do it now with LCM.

From what I have been seeing on the Forum lately, is that many people have had the column lock recall done years ago and then the recall fails. Mine failed after 10 years.
I installed the LMC5 bypass on my 97 auto Vette.
