With the car running, depending on under hood temps, you'll see 13.3 to 14.1 or so; I've seen 14.4 for short periods as well, but it's definitely not abnormal. I dropped to 13.0 to 13.1 or so continually, and replaced the alternator (13 years old, 53000 miles) last week; the car runs better, is quieter and overall less buggy (also did the AC idler, tensioner and serp tensioner plus belts).

14.4 is perfect. I'm surprised you see that much voltage when hot. You've got a good one..

Thank you for your replies. Some info...engine off, the key in the run position the display says 11.7v , 12.36v straight off the mutimeter. Battery replaced 5 days ago due to age, not any other problems. New battery reputable brand 5 yr 950 cca. I had thought a new battery would drop the running voltage down around 13.5, but it has remained the same. Old battery was 12.2v and about 400 cca at load test and 9yrs old, before replacing. I purchaced this car new and there is no mods done. I have no issues with it at all. I noticed 14.4 volts condition maybe 2 yrs ago,but couldve been since new, as no faults are ever given. I do keep this car on a 1.5A automatic float charger. I have rechecked battery installation...its ok. I have the correct service shop manual, the charging proceedure is very complicated, beyond me. Does 11.7 v mean there is bad connection and the generator is trying to compinsate or am I overexagrating here? I am still alittle old school.

Per the service manual. There is a .5 volt drop from the reading from the battery to the IPC. So 12 volts at the IPC gauge should be about 12.5 at the battery with a multimeter.

Good info, I never knew that. I always wondered why the IPC never matched the readout at the battery
