Default Brake dust!

I have an 01 Z06, my front brakes throw so much brake dust on the wheels and I can not figure out why. I've read lots of threads where guys say, "that's just normal for the z06". I have seen so many other cars that the front wheels aren't totally covered in dust, that I know its not normal for the amount of dust I'm getting. I can literally drive the car 25 miles with regular braking and have a good coat of dust on them from the brakes. There rear brakes hardly throw any dust onto the wheels over a weeks time.

It has Hawks pads that are damn near brand new and drilled and slotted rotors that aren't anywhere near new. I've had 5, c5's and have never seen so much brake dust on front wheels in my life. It's driving me insane, I hate dirty cars and especially dirty wheels.

The cooling ducts on the Z06 blow all that dust on your wheels. I switched out the front pads on my 02 Z06 for Disc Italia Titanium/Kevlar pads and I hardly get any dust at all. I talked to these guys at the SEMA show a couple years ago and they have a good quality product.

Your issue is the Hawk compound your using. If your just street driving you should swap your pads. There is plenty of options I prefer the Carbotech 1521 a low dust performance pad. If interested give me a call $140 for the front set.

Carbotech™ Bobcat 1521™ The Carbotech Bobcat 1521™ is our high performance street compound that is our most successful compound. The Bobcat compound is known for its awesome release and modulation, along with unmatched rotor friendliness. Like our AX™ & XP™ line of compounds, Bobcat 1521™ is a Ceramic based friction material offering minimal rotor damage and non-corrosive dust. Bobcat 1521™ offers outstanding performance, even when cold, low dusting and low noise with an excellent initial bite. This compound’s virtually perfect linear torque production provides incredible braking force without ABS intervention. Bobcat 1521™ operating range starts out at ambient and goes up to 900°F. Bobcat 1521™ is suitable for ALL street cars, perfect for your tow vehicle, police cruiser. The Bobcat 1521™ compound has been found to last two-three times longer than OE pads you can purchase at a dealership or national retailer. That’s one of the beauties of Carbotech Ceramic brake compounds. Bobcat 1521™ is NOT recommended for any track use.

just changed my Z06 pads to EBC RedStuff kevlar/ceramic, after initial set in about 5 days there is hardly any dust now and they stop much better than the stock Zs that were on there , using Z06 rotors at this time and stops on a dime as they say

Thanks for everyone's reply's. I bought a new set of front pads this weekend and pulled the wheels to put them on, after inspecting my pads I was almost positive it couldn't have been the pads. Then I started thinking about it more and you guys have confirmed exactly what I was thinking. I will try a different pad and see if I get a different result.
