Noticed a oil leak last night after some WOT runs for tuning, found out its coming from the balancer seal, the timing cover gasket and balancer seal were replaced 3 years ago at a dealer. I degreased the area this morning and went for a 5 mile drive, I did not drive the car hard, came back to check for leaks and it was bone dry. I then took the car out for some sprinted driving for about 2 miles, came back and bam, oil leak below the balancer, I have a small camera (boroscope) and could see its coming from the balancer seal, my question is why would it only be leaking during high rpms? The stock balancer is NOT wobbling but I did order a new OEM one, ARP bolt and new GM seal (gotta love amazon prime), i do not know if I will replace the balancer yet till I get it off tomorrow.
I'll guess increased oil pressure at high RPM helps it get past the seal. I replaced my balancer due to wobble and was suprised how deep a groove was worn into it. Bet you find the same.
Thats what I am thinking, I did not see a part number for the balancer being replaced on the invoice when the previous owner had the seal replaced so I bet the 114k mile stock balancer has a groove in it.....
PCV system was checked, has no blockage and is pulling vac like it should. I dont want to spend $350+ on a balancer, if the OEM lasted 114k miles so will the OEM one I bought, at least thats the way I see it.
