I took my hood off to make some work easier and made my life harder in turn. I removed the bolts that go from the hinge to the hood itself (think I maybe should have removed the hood with the hinges from the body). Upon reinstalling, in my haste, I must have snapped whatever threads are in the hood because one bolt didn't thread in all the way and has since fallen out.
Has anyone had this issue and fixed it? I am tossing around the idea of trying an epoxy or resin and drilling and tapping that. For reference, I found on another thread that the part number is 12551187 and the bolts are M8x1.25x32.
I had this problem with my aftermarket hood. On that there were only a few at most threads as there is only a thin plate epoxied to the inside of that bulge on the hood and not an actual nut welded to the plate. Not sure what a GM factory hood has. I got a self taping bolt a little larger than the hole in the plate and that has worked for me for the past 4 or so years. The factory bolt is metric I believe and the self taping bolt I used is not.
That's a good idea. I may try to see if a slightly larger bolt will actually fit into the hole.
