First off, I'd like to thank this forum for the wealth of information I've used the last couple months. Seems like my '98 coup has had many of the common problems associated with this vehicle.
I've searched my current problem, but not having any luck. After having this c5 a month or so, the battery would go dead over night. What I found was, the shifter wasn't going completely into park and the acessories would stay on. All it takes is to push shift up to park and slightly pull back until a click is felt, which makes the correct "connection" to turn off acessories. I leave the radio on now, so I know I've done this, because the radio goes off when the door is opened.
Is there an adjustment or is this an indication something worse is about to happen ( which is usually the case, so far ).
There are those who have had the connection at the tranny to fail and prevent shifting. May want to look at it and see if you notice any obvious problem starting to occur. It is a plastic type connector that can break.
Not a expert in autos but have helped a few folks with the FSM guidance. I don't recall any adjustment like in manuals.
While I'm underneath checking the adjustment and considering how easy the linkage/cable repair is, I'll just order the pin and do that. It'll be a couple weeks before I can get to it. So far, it's just a nuisance.
Thanks for the input!
Just looked at the FSM. There is a Park/Lock shift cable from the ignition switch to the shifter with no adjustments. The shift cable is separate and goes from the shifter to the tranny.
Maybe an issue at the ignition switch or shifter. Let us know if we can help further.
