Default Skid Plate Replacement Complicated?

One of my Skid Plates is bent and I think my best option is to replace the whole part, as expensive as it is. Has anyone here replaced this part themselves? How complicated is this?

My plan is to not take it into a shop and do it myself….if I can.

Cost is around $300.00 for a replacement
Here is a How -To taken from the Factory Service manual

We have been selling these for years and not one complaint. They are a great product and a much cheaper option than OEM. Also OEM does not come with the threaded inserts and these do.

A rattle-can of black paint and good to go.

I was really hoping this wasn't going to be a complicated procedure. I'm not happy right now.

No there not. We use black caliper paint and a heat gun to apply. It bakes it on for a durable finish or you can simply use a can of black paint.

Are the threaded nuts a pain to install? Already installed?

Has anyone on the forum actually replaced their Skid Bar themselves?

I'm trying to find out if it's as complicated as the service manual instructions make it sound. I'm pretty mechanically inclined but there are some things I can't do, mostly due to tool limitations. I wonder if I can do this replacement with the car up on Rhino Ramps, cause I don't have a lift.

I have a scissor lift at home and decided not to do this one myself. I'm just about ready to do a clutch and will have the shop do that as well since they have to have the car up and things out of the way. There is a bunch of stuff that you need to get out of the way to get to it and not a lot of space to work. That being said I've done a bunch of my own work on my car Just decided I did not want to take this on. Good luck.

I did mine myself and at most it was a 3 beer level of difficulty. Rhino ramps will give you enough lift and metric allen keys are the most obscure tool needed. No nutserts and no paint on the OEM one left me a bit disappointed for what I paid but you have an alternative I wasn't aware of.

Thanks Curt B. About how long did it take you?

If I can somehow bend the one Skid Bar out a half inch, then I won't bother replacing the whole part just yet. I just have to figure out a way to do it with my limited tools.

Update. I have to replace the radiator due to a leak and have the car out of commission until the new radiator is here. I had the skid plate waiting to be installed, (had it powder coated a while ago) and the nutserts needed to be installed into the skid plate. I changed my mind and decided to attempt the job. As I said above you have to move several things out of the way and unplug them. That being said if you take it slow and easy and keep track of what you unplug and where each bolt goes to it is a doable job at home.

The biggest PIA were the nutserts, mine kept spinning on me when I tried to install them. Finally figured out a way to lock them in place and turn a nut to cinch them tight.

Time broke down something like this, (note there was not setup as the car was already on the lift with the radiator removed)

Removal -- 2 hours, worked methodically and took pictures
Install nutserts -- 45 minutes, 30 minutes to figure out how, 15 to actually get it done.
Reinstall -- 1.25 hours Blower motor tricky as you can not see the two upper bolts and need to work with your hand up in the front left side fender well. Once that is done every thing else is straight forward.

I waited till after I finished to have the three beers.
