Default Water pump change.

I'm changing the water pump and noticed the OE doesn't have any silicone sealant or gasket? Any thoughts? Additionally the antifreeze is pink or red. The cap says it's special. Can I get some insight. 98 C5

1. Normal. No sealant.
2. Yes, see #1.
3. Normal. Dex-Cool. Use it.
4. Use distilled water. Use caution tightening WP bolts; torque to spec. Be sure to carefully remove all of the old paper gasket material.

Well that wasn't so bad. The most difficult part was getting the old gasket off. I replaced the tensioners too.

Paper type water pump gaskets were only used on model years '97 and '98. Beginning in the '99 model year, GM changed the design to the much improved version you now have. They have also changed the radiator cap to an 18lb unit now, as opposed to the original 15lb.

Personally, I like to fill the coolant reservoir up to just below the "cross hatch" bars you see when you remove the cap. I'd rather be guilty of a little too much coolant, than too little. I've had no problem whatsoever in doing so.
