Cold TStat appearance
I just got a new 178 degree thermostat. It looks like someone took a die grinder to it and ground off all the stock housing part numbers on the top of it near the bolt holes. Has anyone else seen that? The little steel check ball was also removed, but that might be part of the design.

Yep! That is a factory GM thermostat that has been modified to open sooner. I wish you luck with it, I had two of the lousy things, NEITHER worked as they should. Oh, they opened early allright, they just never closed again. In the winter I was seeing 110-120 degree constant coolant temps. To top it off, the vendor swore they were fine and charged me to take them back. TRHOW that piece of junk away, do not put it on your engine. Get a Hpyertech 160, it gives me 175-185 constant coolant temps, summer and winter. :cheers:
