Default Hard power steering

I pulled the rack to replace the front timing cover seal. Put everything back together and drove it around 5 miles and everything was fine ( car is a 98 vette). After sitting around an hour got in it and no power steering at idle. Rev it up a little and steering is fine. Pretty sure all of the air is out. Went out this evening after it cooled off and steering was fine. After about a 3 mile warm-up steering got hard again. Pump is quiet-no noises. It worked perfect till we took the rack off and put it back on. Could we have got some dirt in the system? I have owned 7 Vettes in my lifetime but never a C5. I am beginning to regret buying one. The car does have a lot of miles-94K.

94k is not a lot for a c5 if it's been maintained properly. What kind of fluid did you put back in?

Just regular generic PS fluid. Is that wrong?

My friend had some kind of vacuum set-up where he hooked an air connection to the opening on the reservoir.
