Last weekend I washed my car and noticed these white spots all over the paint. Especially on the hood. My first thought was acid rain. It looks like the clear is starting to peel. The mnore I looked at it, though, the more it looked like it was under the clearcoat. Does anyone know of any problems with the GM paint process in recent years? Any TSBs? I am trying to figure out which avenue to go down first. It is a 1999 Dark Navy blue Convertible.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,
Sean
PS> I just got my chrome z06 wheels and new tires put on. Wow! I will have to post some pictures.
Have your dealer check it out; they should stand by the paint and have it fixed. Don't give up; go the dist. rep. route and or call GM if you have to. Good luck. :smash: I am sure there ave been paint problems like this before.
Paint problems should be covered by your warranty if it the car is still under warranty. Let a dealer's body shop look at it and see what they come up with. There are also secret warranties you will not find out about unless you ask. Both my wife and daughter had 1988 Grand Ams that had paint problems long after the warranty ran out. GM covered both of them.

Thanks for the tips guys. I will take to the dealer tomorrow. It is out of warranty. I have a beater, but I was still able to rack up 45,000 miles so far. I will let you know what happens.
I thought by now GM figured out how to paint Corvettes. On my '86 Pace Car (yellow), the clear coat came off in sheets. I mean washing the car, the hose would lift 8" square sections. GM agreed to pay part even though the car was well out of warranty. My '90 Vert (competition yellow) turned colors when hit by sunlight. Park it in the shade and it all went back to the same color. GM had a pet name chameleon yellow for this color and any body work, etc. had to use factory paint for obvious reasons. My purple '95 & '98 pacers were fine. I tought is was a yellow only problem. So what did I do? Bought an '01 yellow vert. I'd make a stink if I were you. They may do something.
