Any one with advise on a mild (400rwhp) heads, cam, headers, and pulley choices, for a daily driver that is planned to go 100,000 miles before overhaul? (2001 cpe MN6) My dealer will install these parts when he does the warranty re-ring.
I have a Katech Stg II package, that I drive daily (it is my only transportation 26 miles one way to work). It made 385 rwhp on an auto, so this would be over 400 on a six speed. The cam is a comp cam 222 - 226 576 - 579.

Re: Heads and Cam daily driver? (Chris@SpeedDemon)
Hey Michael,
Actually, your cam is a 220/220 cam. :)
With all the monster cams out there that are terrible daily drivers and claim to make the most power, it is nice to see a 220/220 baby cam run those kind of et's both on and off the spray.......amazing!
LG Motorsports G5 package with a mild set of headers, X Pipe, Borla Stingers, and a Vararam cold air intake, and PCM programming. You will be at around 410-420 RWHP and around 401 RWTQ. The car will be very drivable and you will love it. The sound and the power. And Lou will take good care of you. In and out in very reasonable time. Mine is a little more rowdy and it makes 431/408. The difference is the Long Long Tubes and no cats.
Cheers

Try the MMS 224 cam and stage II-III LS6 heads, LS6 intake, some good 1 3/4" headers and good dyno pcm tuning. I would NOT go with any larger cam if you want good daily drivibility. I think a 218 cam is too small.

I agree with the MMS stage II(X) heads, BUT, I have their 218 cam, and LOVE it. It pulls as well as other's 224's, passes smog, and gets better than stock gas mileage. It makes a GREAT daily driver. My only concern with all posts here is your desire for long durability. These cams need decent valve springs (erson, manley, Compcam, etc.), and will require replacement @ 15 to 20,000 miles.
Thank you everyone for your replies!
6Speeder, your set-up sounds like what I am looking for. Tell me this, do people actually go in and change springs as a service item, with the heads on the car? I suppose that is no big deal though, with the right tool and air pressure.
Also exactly what springs are good for that cam and should it be single or dual springs? Also what about alittle more cam, say a ~ 220 or .221duration , or does that go over the edge?

MMS 224 cam etc. etc. etc. :yesnod: :yesnod: :yesnod:
Yes you can change the springs with the heads on the car. Takes a couple of hours (I am sure Andy can do it before I even get the fuel rail covers off!) I am NOT the valve spring expert, I am running what Mike Morgan recommended, they are made by Erson, but I don't know the part number. Lot's of folks are using 918's, with good luck. I think they are made by Comp cams. As for how wild for a daily driver...How high is up? A close friend has the same setup as mine, but with the MMS 224 cam. It SHOULD pass smog, but hasn't been checked yet. As you see lots of people like it. It is a LITTLE choppier than mine at idle, and with proper tuning should make about 10 HP more at top end. That's probably as wild as I would ever consider for a daily driver. Think as the mods as a system, bigger cam needs wilder heads to perform best, giving more top end, taking away at low end. Just don't let anyone tell you that a 218 is too small and won't perform, see my sig. :D cheers :chevy
6Speeder, thanks again! I agree, I am going for the .218, by the way that is what MMS recommended also. Now I just have to decide on what level LS6 heads to go with!
