I'm a new corvette owner and love it I just sold my turbo supra and had allot of fun with it. My problem is when I turn my air on it smells like mildew it is a 2001 coupe with 7000 mi. on it. Would like to know if this has been a problem with that year.

Welcome to the Forum.
Alot of us have that problem down here. I won't let the dealer touch my car so the last five minutes of my ride I shut the a/c and ride with the fan on high. That takes care of it for me. :D
You can do a search on 'smell'. One forum member wrote he used a 50/50 mixture of bleach and water and poured it down the vents on the firewall. So I tried the same thing on the girlfriends '02 Jetta. I can pleasantly say there is no skanky smell with the air conditioner anymore. Furthermore, you can use BG Frigi-Fresh by BG Products in lieu of the 50/50 bleach treatment.

That's what I do and it seems to work for me. It's basically what the TSB will do. If they'll do the TSB under warranty and you trust your dealer then get it done.

Re: Air Conditioner smell (baitbuster)
This problem isn't so much a function of year model as it is to where you live. Warm (and humid) climates really bring this out in a number of cars, not just Corvettes. I've been using a product called "Pure Air", that's made by Interdynamics. It comes in a pump bottle and is designed to deal with this specific problem. I bought mine at Auto Zone as I recall. I like it because it solves the problem and doesn't leave any kind of "scent" afterwards. It is completely odorless and fairly cheap. I think it is about $2.99 or so. I do have to reapply it occasionally because sooner or later the mold/mildew will come back.
I've been battling this since I bought my C5. Nothing really worked (lysol, other sprays from the auto parts store etc) until I read a post about the 50/50 H20/bleach idea here on the forum. Works great....just put some in a spray bottle and spray it into the intake right below the windshield (fan on high with it set to "outside air" instead of recirculate). It will smell for a day or so (bleach smell) but then it goes away.....I'm loving it....no more "funky" air when I turn the AC on
Thanks I will try that, its only when I first turn it on and after a few minutes it goes away. I thought at first its because its stay in the garage with a cover. I will try the bleach and water and let you know.
Here is the link you need to read... The problem is poor drainage or no drainage of condensation water from the a/c.. The udders are really restrictive... You can fix it yourself... So easy a caveman can do it.. Simple fix.. A pair of sharp scissors or a knife are the only tools involved DO NOT GO TO DEALERSHIP.. The TSB link is also in this link I am posting... Lastley do as MR Whoopie suggests in post #7.. Spray Lysol in the outside AIR intake vent When you click on the link, look at Bills 3rd post ,where the guy has a picture of the udder in his hand It is L shaped.. This is the mainudder causing your problems.. You do want to clean them all out http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-t...ak-checks.html

good gawd!!! I just realized this thread is from 2002!!
rofl i know. i searched for "air conditioner smell" and it came up with ONE thread.. this one. thanks for the info! wasnt sure if TSB's were covered for free or whatnot. i dont take my cars to dealerships for anything, and if/when i do, they dont leave my sight.
That is what the service bulletin says to install. It's a delay blower control. It turns on the blower motor 3 times after you turn off the car to dry out the coil so it will not mildew and smell. If it sense's low voltage it will not turn on the blower. When I installed the stereo in my car I found it, I had always wondered why my blower motor came on after the car was shut off. The price of that unit is $275.00 so it's not cheap. The good thing is that I live in South Florida and no smell.
