I had gone up the road few miles when I noticed that the oil pressure gauge was indication 80 psi - full scale. I checked the reading on the DIC and it was 128 psi (full scale, I suspect). When I turned off the engine and returned the key to ignition on / engine off, the gauges did their start up reset, and the oil pressure displays returned to their full scale values. I scanned the codes using the DIC and the only code that showed up was B1517H, which is an intermittant switch problem I have been living with for a while (next Spring's project).
Has anyone seen this before? Any suggestions where to begin?
You've got to be kidding with the "has anyone seen this before". It's in the stickys at the top of the forum, it's probably the most often posted complaint on the forum. Here's a Google search for you. There are three ways to replace the faulty oil pressure sensor. Take your choice. Some of these even have videos of how to replace:
Well gee, I'm sorry. I read most of the sticky's when I first found this forum and do not recall having seen this issue.
Click on the link I provided, you'll find the three ways to replace it (intake removal, cutting a hole in the cowl, and using a swivel extension without removing anything). The best suggestion is to remove the intake, replace it by making a relocation kit to move it to where you can easily get to it next time (and if you keep the car, there will be a next time). Here's a link to the parts for the location kit. Look near the end of this thread: http://api.viglink.com/api/click?for...-relocate.html
There's also a youtube video of replacing the sensor without removing anything if you google "youtube C5 oil pressure replacement". I tried it, but couldn't get the tools suggested into the opening as they did in the video.
Here's the link to what you get when you google it as I suggested:
Thanks - I appreciate the help. When I first went through the sticky's, it was my transition from my 1979 MGB to the Vette - I was more focused on certain things.

I just finished with this R&R with a buddy. We had to remove the intake. Not a horrible repair but definitely one I would not have undertaken without his help.
