I've had my H/C for almost a year now and i still can't tell if my gas mileage was affected........but then i haven't really been looking at it.:) I would say yes, but not by much.
Yes big time since your driving style changes to apreciate the more power at hand :D I can still get 27mpg on the highway cruising at 70 in 5th gear but that never happens much since I usually keep it in 4th unless I'm going past 140mph :yesnod:
before motor work, I averaged about 18 mpg, overall, taking everything into account, per tank, not counting tanks where I was on track.
now, I barely get 15. but the big diff is that before, I noticed if I took it easy, and had a mostly freeway tank that I'd be up in the mid 20's. now, it seems I just drink it like a lush. well, that extra 110 rwhp gotta cost sumtin!
:)
David "life is too short to worry bout gas mileage"
Even before the heads&cam, my city driving milage is already at 12-15mpg because I go WOT (safely, of course  ) at every single chance I get. :D:D:D I paid big money to get to the ~400rwhp range, you bet that I will use all of it, at least daily.
And now, after the heads&cam, I can't imagine what my MPG is.
Actually, mine got better! I have a mild cam (218/218 dur, 114 lsa, .561 lift) and high compression (11.4:1), which helps efficiency. Before the heads/cam I got 18 to 19 city, after I got 19 to 20. On a long trip with cruise set at 85 I got 32 MPG before, after I got 34, same trip, same speed. The 3.73 gears DIDN'T help MPG, but are much more fun. :D
Dude those GNx's were sure fun when they came out. I remember the GNx in 1988, it looked like this all black grandma car, but yet could turn a high 12 sec. 1/4 mile! :D
If you need some H&C I am selling mine. The heads are like brand new and I made 430/400 RWHP/RWTQ, that was not open header either, and using heavier wheels and tire combo! Email if your interested.
My fuel economy at 80mph in 6th gear has never really changed from stock. I averaged 27mpg driving home from Bowling Green stock, with heads/cam and now with my 436ci stroker.
I would say your city driving fuel economy will go down because you will have your foot it in quite a bit more. Either way, the extra power is MORE than worth the loss of a few mpg!
