Hello all! I've got a couple of questions, my car was in underground storage for the last couple of weeks, today I went to pick it up and my battery was dead.. ( I forgot 2 disconnect the battery) I already tried jumper cables....so I need a new battery... :( the problem is.. the guys at the pep boys said that replacing my battery would not be easy... something about it will reset my computer yada yada... I dunno how to reset all that technical stuff.... etc etc..and they said it was "hard" to install a new battery... some input would be greatly appreciated!! :) ( I'm sure this is probably something simple but I'm still learning) Thanks in advance. Jennifer
If you battery is dead your computer is likely allready "reset".
Whatever the case, do not worry about that. Your computer will relearn its settings in about a take full of gas run through it.
The worst you might have to do is do an idle relearn procedure. But probably not likely.
Did you let the car that was jumping you charge your battery for a few minutes before trying to start? You could also charge it overnight. It might be charged ok once you do that.
Good advise..... BE SURE to get a "glass mat" or "gel" type of battery, such as the new Delco or the Optima; do not let them put in the old/regular liquid acid type. :smash: :yesnod:
I have killed my battery half a dozen times, dont worry about the computer. The battery in a vette serves the same function in any other car. Its good advice to go with a gel type

Also don't be surprised to have to reprogram your key fob or need the security code of your radio if the security feature was set...Good luck!
had to replace the batt. in my 98 and it was not hard at all. sound like pep boys is trying to generate some additional revenue. very straight forward and its alot easier than my c4
Since my vette is stored in Miami where I only get to use it a few days each month, I always disconnect the battery each time I leave Florida. Reconnecting the battery is NO PROBLEM. The radio works fine & doesn't require its code to operate. The only thing I have to do is re-learn the key fobs which takes about 2 minutes (instructions are in the owners manual).
You will have no problem...after you install the battery, start the car and let it idle until the cooling fans come on. Make sure all lights and accessories are off. After the fans come on, shut the car off for at least 30 seconds, then restart it. The idle is re-learned. Now drive the car normally for about 60 miles, and the computer has re-learned the fuel trims, etc.. That's it. Never listen to the people at Pep Boys, if they were that good they wouldn't be working behind the counter there for minimum wage.
