Default Fuel Pump Question

Hello Everyone:

Late last year I bought a 98 Vette with 34,000 miles on it. Before I bought it the dealer who sold it said it had the issues with the fuel gauge. Thus after researching on here I bought the car and the dealer who sold it to me paid for the right tank fuel pump. I bought it in October so before I put it away in the winter I started using the Techron to try to fix the fuel sender issue. At the beginning of this year everything started working perfectly ( I also kept using the Techron in every tank fill up), however around August I started to encounter the problem again. I also ran out of gas, but I thought I still should have about a quarter of a tank left. My questions are, is the fuel sending unit and the jet siphon pump that sends fuel to the left tank all one unit or separate parts, and second, should I just replace the fuel pump since the Techron was working at one time but the issue has returned? Thanks for yor help.

1. In the right tank, the fuel sending unit and siphon pump are only available as an assembly. If you ran out of gas, this is not a "sender" issue, it is a faulty/clogged siphon pump issue.

Note: ONLY on the left side fuel pump assembly (the primary pump), is the sending unit available separately.

2. Yes, replace the right side fuel pump/sender assembly. Shop around, prices vary widely and there are several companies offering this. Besides AC Delco brand, do not be afraid to consider Bosch or Carter. Also, be sure to verify if the new tank gasket comes with it or not. It is not a typical cheap gasket item, and should come with new bolts. Tightening torque for the bolts is in INCH pounds!

Thanks for your help. So if I need to service the jet siphon pup, isn't that directly attached to the right side fuel pump. As I stated I do have a brand new AC Delco fuel pump, I thought you needed to drop the tanks to replace this. If that is the case shouldn't I just replace the fuel pump and that would take care of the jet siphon pump and the fuel sending unit? Thaks again.

Hey, been there done that. I had the faulty fuel gauge problem on my 98 and after trying the techron ( which is not a fix for this problem on the 98s) and cleaning the circuit boards on the senders, the only thing that fixed my problem is what GM said from the beginning about this problem is to replace both pumps. The driver side pump assembly and the passenger side jet siphon pump assembly. I replaced mine with Bosch (amazon.com) for about a total of approx. 500.00 for both. They had the gaskets and the bolts. I've been satisfied with zero problems for almost 2 years. These units are complete with sending units/ everything you need.
