Default 9012 HIR Low Beam Bulb

I am evaluating installing 9012 HIR low beam bulbs. I read the Candlepower website articles and a few posts on the forum.

The 9012 bulb does not have the filament shield that is built into the tip of the 9006 bulb and neither does the headlight lens have a shield. Candlepower states this might be an issue. My specific question is if not having the shield causes issues to approaching cars?

Would like to hear the experiences of those that have installed the 9012 (or 9011) HIR bulbs.

Note: I am not a fan of HID bulbs....

Thanks

I did the 9011/9012 swap. It is an improvement. Guessing a HID kit, or the European
lights would be better but, For just bulbs, Can't beat it.

I've drove several times at night with them in. No issues, I don't get flashed,
I don't have many miles on this.. Can't comment on bulb life or melted housings...

The HIRs work great for me. Big improvement over the stock bulbs. No problem with oncoming traffic. I think the corvette is so low that the lights aren't high enough to bother anyone. I also added the 4-HI harness that keeps the low beams on when using the high beams.
