I have some alum MAF ends I'm thinking of putting on my A4. Will the long term gains be the same as a Granatelli? Should I replace the stock air box before doing either one?
Replacing stock air intake is a must on a C5, do a search on MAF ends and Granatelli MAF, most people see no gain, some actually lose power and have surging problems. :smash:

Definatly get a cold air intake, great gain for the bucks and easy to do. For a mostly stock engine I don't think the Granatelli is needed, and MAF ends alone can cause you to run lean. It's an easy fix however, get a MAF translator and tune for the additional air going into the engine. Now you're set for easy tuning when you add more mods (which you will, it's addictive)
I try to avoid MAF discussions anymore but for a fellow fan... Stay away from monkeying with the MAF unless you know what you're fooling with. The MAF signal is too central to much of what the PCM does for it's accuracy to be lost.
"up the irons" is an old saying for "cheers". "Irons" refer to the old pewter or silver beer tankards used in the road houses of old England. Do you know why the bottoms of these were made with glass? It's because you never knew who was drinking with you and you didn't want to get "sworded" when your glass was up. So the bottom was glass and you could keep you eye on the person/people around you when you were taking a drink.
I think the factory style airbox is a good improvement, I like the look of the Blackwing. My own preference however is for a filter that's further away from the MAF. You'll here lots of "if I put a hi flo filter on my MAF calibration is already whacked" but the truth is that the only thing that alters the required cal is a local change in flow (i.e. in the neighborhood of the MAF sensor.) I run one of the older Halltech one piece TRIC units with a stock MAF and saw very little change in fuel trims. When I used the pretty MAF ends it came with, they were around 15-17%. The closer your filter assembly of choice is to the MAF, the greater it's potential for influencing your trims through changes in velocity, pressure, etc.
Get the cold air box!!!!! Screw the Maf ends!
"Scream for me Long Beach!" Powerslave tour dude and Piece of Mind...because there is a Killer behind you and you better run for your life.
"Up the Irons" is also a term to salute Iron Maiden....who is a serious metal band.Cruising to The Trooper and Run to the Hills are some serious tunes when flying in my Z06 :D
I was thinking of the first album pic. on my Hood or the Killers cover...I think Eddie with the Axe dripping blood would rock all over my hood...especially with my new 12" sub I just installed.
It was okay. Perhaps at the time it was written, it was more ground braking that it is today. It was published in 1932, so it predates 1984 by 17 years, "Walden Two" (BF Skinner) by 16 years, and Ayn Rand's Anthem by 6 years. I probably think of BNW as derivitave because I read all of the other books before it, which is no fault of Huxley's.
Anyway, I'm not sure what the dystopia of Aldous Huxley has to do with C5 tech. They did have flying cars in Brave New World, which is an interesting automotive topic, but not C5 related.
