What is this ?

The wires from the ignition cylinder provide an electrical path back to the BCM so that when the key pellet is read by the sensing wire in the cylinder the resistance value of the pellet can be read by the BCM.
Wiring a fixed value resistor, that matched the value of the original key pellet, to the proper connectors of the BCM ( or to the connectors contacts in the other half of the disconnected connector) fools the BCM into thinking that the proper key was used to start the car.
