I bought my Corvette used from a dealership. Months after i bought it the saleman told a friend of mine that my car came from the factory with a automatic transmission in it and that a previos owner changed it over to a six speed. I did have it up on a hoist about six months after i bought it and it did have what looked like a brand new transmission in it. My question is what number on the VIN tells you about the transmission it came with.

I used the Vin decoder under the Tools tab at the top of the forum and it gives the info you are looking for. hope this helps.
Also the rear axle code is different for an auto and a manual trans car. If your rpo code in the glove box says GU6, it started as manual car with a 3:42 rear. If it says GU2, or G90 and G92, it was an auto with either a 2:73 or a 3:15. A 3:15 car will have both G90 and G92 in the code list.
You didn't say what year car you have, but if its 97-98 the codes are under the driver's side rear storage lid. Tip: Always put the year car you're asking about in the question, or complete your profile.
