I found these (hard to find) Band Clamps @ JC Whitney.. they are designed just for the slip fit senarios like the TPIS Headers..
Mine are leaking pretty bad at the slip joint and I am going to have a set of these bolted on for a fix.. Although having some flanges would be optimal - this is a pretty quick cheap solution..
STAINLESS STEEL BAND CLAMPS
- 304-stainless steel withstands high heat and resists rust, corrosion to look better longer
- Creates a 360° leakproof seal Securely hold exhaust pipes without crushing them—no restriction of smooth exhaust flow.
- Constructed for all exhaust systems. 3" wide band clamp completely covers exhaust pipe joints.
- Hardware is pre-attached for easy installation. Grade 8 bolts included for a vibration-resistant joint. Choice of 4 pipe sizes.
Re: A fix for Slip Fit Headers like TPIS (bparker)
I use those on every slip-fit joint on my FLP's and Magnaflows. You can also get them from local parts stores like NAPA. I ordered a couple recently to replace the U-clamps on my mufflers from Thunder Racing.
I like them best for these kinds of slip fits.

This is what I used to make my eliminator pipes with my TPIS headers. They work ok but you really need to weld some flanges on for the best results.
Phillip
A question for those of you with leaking TPIS headers - how can you tell they are leaking? Is it a sound, or a black deposit at the joint?
I ask because mine don't sound right on the passenger's side, but they look like they are in tight and I had clamps put on them... trying to figure out if it's a leak or not.
Re: A fix for Slip Fit Headers like TPIS (TenaciousD)
I had a ticking sound and took it to a muffler shop where we put it on a lift while running and felt the leak with our hands as you could feel the air coming out..

Mine were leaking bad enough to set off the check engine light and set codes for low voltage O2 sensor on that bank. :cry
Since they were welded, no more codes. :yesnod:

I'm using this for my setup too. However they do not create a complete seal. They still leak but not quite as much. Best solution: weld on some flanges. :yesnod:
Also, you can get these at your local NAPA or Big 3 part stores.
Geez.. welding sounds great but how will you ever change a starter or pull a clutch or pull an engine???
:yesnod: This is very true if you wanna do a clutch install (assuming you have an MN6). This would tack on a lot of extra time on an install.
So true! I just had a clutch done, my mechanic hates me. He had to cut the pipes, and after install I drove across town, AM rush hour (such as it is for Albuquerque  ) to an exhaust shop for reweld. Oh well, works, and sounds good now.
