Default exhaust manifold question

I have a 2000 Coupe. I know that the first owner had the engine replaced by the dealer at 36000 miles.

Just recently I hydrolocked my 120k mile engine by driving through a really deal puddle and had it replaced with a used '2000' 80K mile engine.

Cordes Performance Racing swapped the engine (they did a great job, great customer service) .

My problem is that when they went to connect the exhaust manifold on the replacement engine to my exhaust it did not line up. They used the manifolds off my old motor and everything was fine.

So my dilemma is that I need to replace the catalytic converter on the driver side and I don't want to get the wrong one.

Did they have different exhaust manifolds for the C5, and how do you tell them apart?

We just had a customer have us do headers on his low mile c5. He is supposed to grab the car Mon or Tue, I'll ask if he doesn't want his stock stuff, worse case if his mid pipe is doesn't fit we can cut out the cat and swap it out in your midpipe. It was very odd how yours was tweaked and wouldn't fit on the insurance supplied manifolds. Hit me up Mon or Tue later in the day and I'll let you know what he says. Thank you for the kind words btw!

Pre Cats or what became called Pup cats appeared on some, primarily California / Low Emissions C5s in 2000. Is it possible that your car or the replacement exhaust came from a California 2000 car? I am not sure there was a difference in manifolds but probably the mid pipes.

The manifolds changed where the mid-pipe connects around 2000 or 2001. The newer and older are not compatible.

Take a look at the pictures from another thread. I think the links in my quote below are still good and show pictures of the two types.

The later ones look like they are a much better design that looks like shorty headers and I have read some reports that they perform pretty well.
